Late news

We called before going to bed around 11:00pm, and were told that Josh continued to have multiple apneic and brachicardic episodes in the last several hours, and so they went ahead and re-intubated him.  We said that we felt peace about the reasons for doing this, and even though we do, it was still disconcerting to learn that Josh was intubated again. But like we said, the most likely reason for Josh's apnea and bradicardia is just that his little brain hasn't developed enough yet.  The ventilator settings have been set low, with a minimum number of breaths of 10 per minute, a little oxygen (26%), and low pressure.  We are hoping once he has settled down the oxygen can be weaned to room air (21%). This also means that Josh will be on the ventilator for a week before they attempt to place him on CPAP again to give his brain time to mature.

Prayer Request:
  • The breathing tube was placed well so that it provides good breathing support without causing Josh too much stress.
  • Josh stay healthy and not develop an infection related to having the breathing tube.
  • Josh's lungs and heart continue to grow and mature
  • Josh be able to get some rest now that the ventilator is doing some of the work of breathing
  • Josh's brain continue to develop so that when he does come off of the ventilator that he will have less or no apnea.
  • Mom and Dad have peace knowing that Josh will not be having such a difficult time breathing like he has had the last two days and see this as a "normal" preemie thing and not a set back (which it isn't medically).

  1. I'm a day late but WooooHoooo for POOP! If you need anything Chrissy let me know. I have to work Wednesday, I could give you a ride if you need. Or pick up anything and bring it to you. All my prayers to you and yours. Stay strong for you and for little Josh. I hope the ventilator gives him the rest he needs.

    Lots of love and hugs!
